It has had direct daily effect on what I wear and how I reveal myself to the world ever since that week in April 2004. It has made choosing, buying and wearing clothes easy and a source of joy. I learned how to accept compliments too - I’ve been receiving loads.
I trusted her wholeheartedly. She taught those women how to look beautiful. In her presence, on rebirthing seminar I had done with her previously, I had learned how to feel beautiful for who I was. It was going to be good. It was great. Feeling enthusiastic, I had brought all of my clothes along to get expert advice on them and to shed any that weren’t “me”. I came away with a selection that worked for me every time and with most of my newer clothes which I was happy to discover were a good buy. I gained some new clothes too, as a result of swapping with other girls. We were not exactly girls, to be honest, but the fun we had during the workshop often made us feel very young and very care free. It felt safe. I could jump into the deep end with it all while other participants were supported to take it as gently and gradually as they needed it. Gilly’s wisdom and love was much called for as the work affected us far beyond colour and style, touching our personal hopes and insecurities. I wouldn’t have done it with anybody else. On return to work, I discovered that colour and style affected my relationships as well. Apart from feeling more confident, with my new way of dressing, I found myself more popular with my colleagues of four years. I was surprised to see that as my clothes showed people more of who I was, they wanted more of me. The paradox being that while my shyness had prevented me from reaching out to people before, my authenticity with clothes encouraged them to reach out to me. And I enjoyed it, because they were responding to a genuine part of me. I could be liked for being me - every shy girl’s dream! I enjoy many practical benefits of knowing my colours and style. I always have fun shopping for clothes. Never make a wrong buy. Always feel and look great in what I wear, whether it cost 40 or 4 pounds. Never take long to find what I need and know very quickly IF they have it in the shop. As every garment works with the rest of my wardrobe, I can create many different outfits with what I have already, without the need to spend loads. And, as my style loves details and texture, I’ve had great fun with altering clothes to make them unique, creative and even more me. I love using the interesting easy to use haberdashery available these days. Even buying presents for friends became more rewarding, as I am able to guess more easily what suits other people too. On personal level, I find it more enjoyable to be and express who I am. I understand my ways and needs better so it’s easier to be kind to myself. On learning how helpful it is to wear what is ‘me’ I felt inspired to look for and express my uniqueness in other aspects of life too - the way I eat, work, spend free time, interact with people. The joy has spread far far beyond colour and style! Thank you, Gilly. Dorota Agata Godby
